In 2022, a simple yet profound idea emerged: to transform everyday ingredients into something extraordinary. It started in a home kitchen with a passion for fermentation and a few bottles of apple cider vinegar for friends and family. A passion that grew bigger, fueled by a food engineer’s curiosity and the desire to explore what happens when the forces of nature combine with precise science.
It's the journey that has led to Essensur – a sweet-sour, fermented flavor universe created to give you a whole new culinary experience.
A taste adventure in every bottle
We are an engineer-led fermentation company, and our mission is to make it easy for you to enjoy healthy and nutritious meals that are full of flavor and joy. Inspired by the rich and wild Scandinavian nature, we created Essensur. It captures the essence of local berries, fruits and vegetables, which are transformed through a long fermentation process.
When you unscrew the cap of a bottle, you are greeted by a scent that is complex and surprising. Think of the scent of ripe berries, dark chocolate, warm cinnamon rolls or freshly baked sourdough bread. These deep aromas are a result of the magic that occurs when live cultures work over time.
We designed Essensur to create the perfect balance in your food. Do you have a salad with bitter cabbage or arugula that you don't usually like? The mild acidity from lactic and acetic acid combined with the delicate sweetness from berries and fruits creates a harmony that neutralizes the bitterness and lifts the flavor.
From nature to your kitchen – full of nutrition
In our Multisensory Food Lab, we constantly experiment with different ingredients to achieve completely unique flavor profiles. We use only the best, locally grown Scandinavian ingredients. Wild blueberries, juicy plums and sweet apples form the basis of our beautiful products. Some of our varieties are even refined with a touch of single-origin coffee, tea or wild herbs to give an even more nuanced taste.
Essensur is a living food, which is why we never pasteurize our products. This ensures that all the beneficial, live bacteria, probiotics and antioxidants are preserved in every bottle. Your salad will not only be tasty – it will also be even healthier.
We believe that food should be both nutritious and full of flavor. Essensur is created to make it easy for you to try your hand at putting together salads that are not only green and healthy, but also full of character and depth. Also try it as a refreshing drink by mixing it with cold mineral water.
Sustainability as a foundation
Our commitment to sustainability is as strong as our passion for fermentation. We work with a zero-waste principle and reuse leftovers from fermentation to create other delicious products, like our signature fermented salt. We have chosen to deliver our products locally with an electric van to reduce our environmental footprint.
